The first Geodesy Cartoon Competition/Austria 2026

 

Theme:

Geodesy

Raising awareness of geodesy through humorous and visually engaging cartoons, making complex scientific concepts accessible to the general public

 

Conditions:

-The competition is organized by the International Association of Geodesy (IAG) and its Global Geodetic Observing System (GGOS)

-Participation is open to everyone, including artists, students, educators, and scientists

-Submissions must be made via the official online submission form

-There is no limit to the number of cartoons submitted; however, each cartoonist can win only one prize per category

-Cartoons must be submitted in one of the following categories:

Geodesy Explaining Cartoons

Geodetic Observation Technique Cartoons

Geodetic Product Cartoons

-Cartoons may be hand‑drawn and scanned or fully digitally created

-AI‑generated cartoons are allowed but are eligible only for the AI Recognition Award

-If AI usage is not declared, the submission may be disqualified

-The background must be white

-Color is optional

-No visible text is allowed inside the cartoon image

-A title (max. 55 characters) and subtext (max. 300 characters) in English must be submitted separately via the form

-Files must be JPG or PNG, max. 25 MB

-Minimum size is 4000 × 4000 pixels at 300 dpi

-All cartoons must be original and free of copyright infringement

-All submissions are licensed under Creative Commons CC BY 4.0

-Each cartoonist must submit a separate credit sign or logo.

-Additional contributors may be listed, but prizes go to the main submitting cartoonist

300 € cash prize

Top 5 contributors per category:

 

Reserved free place at the IAG Geodesy Reception 2026 during the EGU General Assembly in Vienna
