Our certificates will have been torn apart and destroyed, our statues and medals obliterated or recycled. At best, the symbols of our honor will have been handed down to someone who may not even know us and might use them as decoration for their room; or, in the most ideal situation, a few will end up in a museum, where some people get a salary to maintain and display them. We might be a source of inspiration for teenagers and young people or contribute to the economy of art in that era—if art be still alive…
Ah, how generous cartoonists are, they will be generous even a hundred years from now, in their absence, they forgive still and they serve the recycling industry, the design industry, the prosperity of museums and the art economy, and the training of artists…
Cartoonists are generous both in that era and today, giving their works to organizers without any guarantee of execution. Yes, we know what the fate of these awards, medals, and statues will be a hundred years from now. But that does not mean we should be calm today and remain silent in the face of endless festivals, festivals that issued calls for entries, collected works, and then vanished into the dust, with no trace of results or prizes to be found. It is true that we cartoonists are generous, but we do not forgive or forget those festivals and even those who, after announcing the results, refused to deliver the prizes. For us cartoonists, today, more than ever, there is a need for accountability and reports of work from the organizers.
We hope that with correct behavior and fulfilling their commitments, they let us till we will remain generous and calm, and they do not force us to become like the inhabitants of Jurassic Park, angry and ready to extinct them before our extinction.
