Abbas Naaseri / Halloween was passed, and all the people of the world were supposed to scare each other. Whether it was countries where Halloween was in their culture, or countries that imitated Halloween. However, Halloween is getting paler and less prosperous every year. Because with all the fear and stress that people around the world endure throughout the year, there is no room left to be afraid of just on a particular day.
When we breathe, inhaling polluted air scares us. When we eat fruit, we are afraid of the transgenic industry. When we eat, we are afraid of food hygiene, we are afraid of wars, weapons, killings, genocides, and crimes, we are afraid of the results of the American elections, we are afraid of artificial intelligence, we are afraid of the psyche of the international community that has collapsed under economic pressure, and hundreds of other fears and stresses that Halloween is a funny joke…
Dear festivals organizers, especially those of large and deep-rooted festivals, amidst all this fear, we have one big request.
Please be meticulous in selecting your judges. Choose professional, knowledgeable judges with expertise in the art of cartoons and caricatures, and importantly, those with a strong mental archive.
Every day, we become more afraid of the results of your festivals than of the fears I mentioned. Is it possible that most of the winning works these days in the world of cartoons are so similar? More than half of the winning works in reputable festivals, judged by festival traditional juries (if we don’t say copied), definitely share numerous similarities. Do these judges lack an understanding of cartoons? Are they caught up in the names of their friends during the selection process, or do they try to favor their compatriots?
We have enough fear entrenched within us. Please gift us peace in this Halloween-like world.
We are a family in a global village…
