Abbas Naaseri / All around the world, we have often seen festivals launched with fancy posters, glamorous ceremonies, and impressive prizes. They share many photos of gatherings, celebrations, and hugs between directors, judges, and winners. But the winning artworks are never shown. Sometimes, not even a complete list of winners is published.
We never understood why those works were chosen as winners, or why the results were not published. What are you afraid of, that you don’t share the results? Which of your own festival rules did you break? What are you hiding? If it was only a gathering where you divided the prizes among yourselves, then nothing more needs to be said. But if you made mistakes, please admit them, apologize, and publish the winning artworks.
A sage asked his disciples: “What makes a person beautiful?”
One of them answered: “Being tall.”
Another said: “Black eyes.”
The third said: “Fair skin.”
And the last one said: “Full hair.”
At that moment, the sage placed two bowls in front of them and said: “Look carefully. The first one is made of gold, but it contains poison. The second is made of clay, but it holds pure water. If you were thirsty, which one would you choose?”
All of them replied in unison: “The clay bowl.”
The sage said: “When you considered what was inside the bowls, their appearance became meaningless to you.”
Now, your festivals are just like these bowls.
What makes a festival truly beautiful and reputable is what is inside it—its substance and ethical values.
Therefore, you should make the essence of your festival more beautiful than its outward appearance.
