Weekly Single Page of Cartoonmag / No 48 / YOUR EYES ALONE ARE ENOUGH FOR ME…

Abbas Naaseri / I want to tell you a story, a legend from millions of years ago. At the time of early humans, there was a festival whose jury selection (actually one of the jurors) always shocked everyone. A cartoonist who wasn’t very professional was a jury member every year. Everyone knew the reason — it was because of her gender!

Then one year, something strange happened. When the carrier pigeon brought the call of festival, everyone was surprised. They thought the festival director had finally reformed, and that the festival’s credibility now mattered to him. The woman’s name was not on the jury list.

Therefore, they took their stone tablets and, eagerly, carefully, and hopefully, created new artworks and sent them to the festival office.

The results were finally announced, and that was when it became clear to everyone that a fool is always a fool. And Mr. Director insisted on his foolishness. The judge who had been on the jury every single year — and wasn’t on the list this time — ended up becoming one of the festival’s main winners.

A fool never bothers himself — it’s his foolishness that bothers everyone else.

People like these — who bring their friendships, nationalist agendas, or sexual ties into the sacred world of art — are truly disgraceful. They bury their heads in the sand, thinking no one sees what they’re doing.

At that time, the most unfortunate thing was that this particular woman had a constant presence at that festival — a fact known to other artists who served as judges or directors in other festivals. They gave her awards or invited her as a judge just to win her favor and increase their chances of receiving a major award in that festival.

Wickedness and impurity turned more contagious than any illness, spreading rapidly across the world. Such festivals were not few — in fact, their number was increasing every day.

And that’s how our story ends… except this time, the crow forgot its way home. How strange… It seems like you, too, lived millions of years ago — and these festivals sound all too familiar to you.

If only it had been this kind of people — not the dinosaurs — that went extinct. The realm of art is sacred. We must learn from the stories of the past and not let such rootless individuals grow like mushrooms in today’s world.

A festival director should consider the quality of an artist’s resume — not the shape of their sexual partner’s eye and eyebrows, nor their personal friendships, favors, or nationalist sentiments.
