Abbas Naaseri / Let’s get straight to the point. In my previous article titled “Working Children… in Cartoons”, I warned parents about the improper involvement of their children in the world of cartoons.
Now, it’s understandable if families, caught up in the dream of their child becoming an artist, turn a blind eye to reality.
What’s more concerning is that some so-called “masters”—who aren’t even qualified to be instructors—take advantage of families’ lack of awareness to earn money. They fabricate résumés for children, presenting meaningless and fake certificates of participation in festivals as achievements. Some even go so far as to print personal certificates and pass them off as credible credentials. Sadly, all they see is money. They interest to be called “master” by others and pay money.
But my real audience is at festival organizers and judges. Why you?
Lately, I’ve been reviewing the results of festivals with children and youth categories. With eyes closed, it’s easy to tell which cartoonist and from which country submitted the works that were allegedly created by children. In many cases, if the artwork didn’t have a signature, It’s no different from the cartoonist’s own work.
Why do you allow this corruption to spread through your selections, turning it into a common practice? As a result, we are seeing more and more people submitting such works to festivals every day.
Why do you enable this kind of corruption with your selections, making it seem acceptable and even routine? As a result, we’re seeing more and more of these types of entries in festivals.
If this is due to a lack of awareness or inability to identify artworks, then it’s time to improve your cognition. If you also want to earn a hollow honor for yourself and if it’s because you want to boast about having many young participants in your festival, then that is truly unfortunate.
This note, and everything I’ve said, comes from a place of concern—for the future of cartoons and caricature.
I hope those who need to hear this will take it seriously before we are forced to publicly expose them by name and example
