Abbas Naaseri / The title of this text has nothing to do with the content — as bloggers say, it’s just a hook to audience attraction.
Let me be clear, straightforward, and transparent, without flattery or favour.
From now, on the News Platform Cartoonmag.com and respected websites such as Irancartoon and Tabriztoon, we have agreed not to publish calls for national festivals unless they comply with the following conditions. Furthermore, if at any stage of a festival, these rules are violated, the call will be removed from our platforms, and the reason will be transparently announced to the artists.
We are just one part of this cycle toward the utopia of cartoons, and you are the other part. If a national festival does not respect these conditions, firstly out of respect for cartoons, and secondly for yourselves and your art, please refrain from participating. We are working for the collective interest.
For a national festival’s call to be published and supported, it must meet these four conditions:
- It must be clearly stated in the regulations that AI-generated works are not allowed.
- Avoidance of non-professional judges. Organizations or companies that finance the festival are not entitled to place their own employees as judges. If they insist, they should assign separate awards as a technical section, and the artistic section must be entrusted to professionals. (An example of this model was seen at the Alborz International Gas Cartoon Festival.)
- Participation in the national festival is strictly for Iranian artists residing inside Iran. It is not enough to simply be Iranian by nationality; participants must live within Iran. The financial circulation of the festival rightfully belongs to those artists who struggle with life in Iran under the current economic conditions.
- A valid contact number of the festival’s director or secretariat must be included in the call for follow-up after the festival ends.
Maybe later we will add more conditions — who knows?
As for international festivals, we will reach conclusions in consultation with other international reference websites.
It is correct, the title has nothing to do with the content, but if festivals continue the old way, you might as well expect pigeons to start giving birth instead of laying eggs — and that would be surprising.
