Abbas Naaseri / Although the usual format of the weekly articles published in the single pages in “CARTOONMAG” has always been directly about cartoons, caricatures, and their related controversies, this issue, in honor of spring and the new year, I want to write about the spring. About the rebirth of nature after a harsh winter.
If nature can change, why can’t we? So, I too shall forget and turn green once again.
Perhaps, year after year, the scent, excitement, and joy of Nowruz and the new year fade a little, but regardless, spring arrives, and so does the new year…
I shall sit down and make a new pact with myself for the coming year. I shall not lie. I shall speak the truth. I shall not envy. I will not yearning. I shall not violate others’ rights. I shall not be negligent or cheating others. If God grants me power as a jury member or a festival secretary in the coming year, I need to remember that besides myself and my favorites—my partners and my close circles—many other artists have participated in festivals. They, too, have a rightful share of name and award. I will not abuse my position. I shall allow others to express their opinions, criticisms, and suggestions, and I will not blacklist them for voicing objections. I will learn that from an unknown artist to a great master, everyone deserves respect. I will not wait for personal gain when I support artists. I should not be hypocritical., and if I am in charge of a major festival, I will not be consumed by arrogance, I do not see myself as someone above all others.
And all these things I tell myself…
It feels as if I am saying them to the door so that the wall may hear. (I bit him to frighten you).
I ask God that those who need to know these, hear them, and no longer be deaf.
March 20, 2025, marks the first day of the year 1404 in Iran.
For us Iranians, the new year begins with a great transformation—the change of seasons.
Let’s hope this change is also reflected in those who have yet to adopt fair and proper approaches to their festivals.
With the turn of the year, a new shift will also take place in the world of cartoons: the launch of CARTOONISTS OF THE GLOBAL VILLAGE (COGV), which will keenly observe global cartoon events, and ensure that the unworthy in this field lose their comfort.
