Abbas Naaseri / There is an old proverb that says: “Let it all burn if I gain nothing from it.” This saying reflects a selfish mindset—one where people care only about their interests. If something doesn’t benefit them personally, they are indifferent to whether it harms others.
Of course, it may seem idealistic, even utopian, to expect people to act, protest, or sacrifice something without expecting personal gain. But when we realize that an issue we ignore today could affect us tomorrow, the story changes.
In the world of cartoons, unfortunately, some people sit on the sidelines, adopting an artistic pose. They consider certain actions too commonplace and view protesting an event as beneath their artistic prestige. With a condescending smirk, they scoff at both the situation and those who object to it. They refuse to stand beside others, unwilling to sacrifice their present comfort for something that benefits the collective rather than serving their interests.
But beware of the day when their rights are seemingly violated! Then, they tear their collars, cry out in despair, and with the resounding slogan, “Where is the world of cartoons heading?” they condemn others for remaining silent in the face of injustice.
It is at this moment that we recall their past silence, and our minds instinctively whisper: “Let it all burn if I gain nothing from it!” (or in other words, “If I don’t benefit, let the whole thing collapse.”)
Today, we strive for The right to demand justice, to protest against Unfair judgment, Non-commitment, and inequality in the world of cartoon, and to favor cartoon not for personal gain, but for the greater good. If this effort bears fruit, the benefits will circulate within the cartoon industry and eventually reach us all.
Dear friends, artists, and colleagues, we are all in the same boat. Perhaps today, the end of the boat where we sit has a small leak, and we become wet. But if we don’t fix it, sooner or later, the whole boat will sink. Consider this a fair warning…
